Recognized for his innovative solutions, Eugene litigates complex civil and criminal cases for Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms, real estate development companies, prominent c-suite executives, and high-net worth individuals, while also representing the neediest individuals in pro bono matters. His approach is defined by a delicate balance of careful thought and swift action, blending intellect, intuition, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of legal strategy.
Among his notable representations are:
Won a $21 million award in a federal civil jury trial, finding all controlling shareholders, board members, and officers liable for breach of fiduciary duty & corporate waste case involving a $250 million company.
Obtained a favorable outcome defending a national media organization against a multi-billion-dollar defamation claim at the summary judgment stage.
Secured a desirable settlement on the first day of trial, representing the founder and former CEO of one of the most well-respected sports and entertainment talent agencies in a business dispute, after defeating summary judgment.
Defused threatened litigation against a Fortune 10 healthcare company by conducting an investigation, preparing dispositive motion arguments, and persuading opposing counsel to abandon filing.
Achieved multiple successful resolutions for a distinguished video game developer, publisher, and executives against an array of multi-million-dollar civil claims against the company.
Won the dismissal of a copyright infringement lawsuit related to the critically acclaimed movie Gone Girl on behalf of a film studio, author, director, and producers.
Defeated all claims at the pleading stage and precluded a class action for an Internet company against fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and Section 17200 claims.
Steered multiple Fortune 500 clients through government investigations, resolving matters without charges.
Secured a favorable settlement representing a transgender victim in a case of excessive force in a Section 1983 civil rights matter.
Acquired a withdrawal of notice of eviction (as first chair) when representing an elderly disabled woman against eviction under false pretenses by a landlord.
Obtained a substantial award in a matter representing a victim of domestic violence in spousal support proceedings.
While in law school, Eugene drafted amicus briefs on First Amendment issues for cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits. Along with his team, he was invited to present oral arguments in both circuits.
