Dolly K. Hansen is an experienced attorney whose practice includes both complex large-scale civil litigation and a wide range of criminal defense matters. Ms. Hansen was an associate in the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP for 6 years, where her practice included the representation of large institutions and prominent individuals in both high-profile and discreet matters. As part of her practice, Ms. Hansen represented clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to individual pro bono clients. Ms. Hansen then spent almost a decade at Spertus, Landes & Umhofer representing entities and individuals in high-stakes litigation.

Some of her notable representations include:

  • Representing a key executive of a solar energy company in an arbitration involving the alleged misappropriation of trade secrets and violations of a non-disclosure agreement.

  • Representing a national legal services firm and prevailing on a motion to pursue derivative claims against the previous owners of a subsidiary for fraud.  This was a novel decision in California, which previously had no published case law allowing this type of derivative claim.  The firm’s client can now pursue millions of dollars in damages, as well as punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.

  • Drafting a motion to dismiss that resulted in the voluntary dismissal of all claims by a former consultant against a social media company and its CEO for breach of contract and tortious interference, after the company reported the consultant’s actions to FINRA.  Ms. Hansen secured dismissal following only one round of briefing to the Court.

  • Representing two household staff members of a prominent media mogul against claims by a former girlfriend, seeking $70 million in damages.  Following motion to compel arbitration and demurrer briefing, the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed all claims.

  • Representing a licensed psychologist in proceedings by the California Board of Psychology, in which the Board originally revoked the license due to approximately $5 million in billing errors.  Through an explanation of the factual history of the case, Ms. Hansen negotiated the imposition of a probation-only term with no award of restitution.

  • Representing the former co-founder and three high-ranking employees of a prominent $100 million transportation technology start-up in a dispute involving claims of wrongful termination, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty.

  • Representing a high school senior and student-athlete at a prominent private school in California against allegations of sexual assault by a fellow student.  A review of text messages between the students established that the allegations were false and the student-athlete was reinstated without any formal charges being filed.

  • Drafting Ninth Circuit briefing that resulted in resentencing for a defendant in a criminal Medicare billing fraud case in the Eastern District of California.  The case has become a leading case on loss issues related to Medicare billing fraud.  United States v. Prakash, 669 F. App’x 877 (9th Cir. 2016).

  • Conducting an extensive document review and drafting presentation that ultimately convinced the SEC not to pursue charges against leading oil company in Los Angeles.

  • Defeating a civil restraining order against a former FBI member, verifying no misconduct in connection with an investigation.  The evidence was so overwhelming that the Court took the rare step of granting its order nunc pro tunc to the date of filing.

Ms. Hansen earned her law degree from Rutgers School of Law, Newark, where she was magna cum laude and Order of the Coif. Upon graduation, Ms. Hansen was awarded the Alumni Prize for Greatest Promise as a Member of the Legal Profession. While in law school, Ms. Hansen was a Managing Editor of the Rutgers Law Review, and a judicial extern to the Honorable Justice James R. Zazzali of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Upon graduation, Ms. Hansen became a law clerk to Justice Zazzali. During law school, Ms. Hansen also worked as a summer associate in the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP.
